Lesson 4 Overview: Year 3 Practitioner

Overview

In this fourth Year 3 session, the focus was on practical Unani dispensary skills and live case-taking to deepen diagnostic reasoning.
Students prepared Sharbat Unnab together, reviewed and two previously submitted student client case studies, and then conducted two new live client. Which were then discussed and group reflection on diagnostic quality and treatment planning.
We ended the day with a hands-on preparation of Habbe Asgand pills.

Class Flow

  The Sharbat Unnab had been soaked overnight, boiled for 20 minutes and the juice squeezed out in advance. At the start of the lesson, we brought the liquid to the boil, added sugar, and reviewed each stage of the process, linking it to Unani principles of extraction and preservation (with lemon juice).
• Case Review: Written Cases from the Previous Lesson
  We discussed the two client cases submitted by students. The group went through each case in detail, focusing on how to improve written analysis, clarify humoural patterns, and move from descriptive writing to diagnostic reasoning and clear treatment direction.
• Live Case 1 – Student-Led Assessment
  At 11:00 AM, Fehmida took a live client case. The group observed her questioning, structure, and prioritisation of complaints, then discussed how to translate the history into mizaj, su’-mizaj, dominant humour, and affected quwwa/a‘za.
• Live Case 2 – Student-Led Assessment
  After the break, Saliha took a second live client case. We compared the two styles of case-taking, highlighted strengths and areas for improvement, and discussed how to refine the diagnostic chain and treatment planning.
• Practical Dispensary: Habbe Asgand Pills
  Completed the powdering mix for Habbe Asgand, students formed and shaped pills. This reinforced practical skills in dose form preparation, consistency, and storage, as well as the clinical indications for Asgand in practice.
